Too inconvenient
Scooter riders who won’t dismount in a pedestrian zone. Coffee shops that ban kids but welcome dogs. Refusing service to foreigners at the restaurant because they don’t speak the language. Nations with negative birth rates are making a thousand small distributed choices — each passable in isolation, collectively bad.
Nobody chooses decline. They just keep choosing convenience.
Product teams face the same. Avoid the backlash, the tickets, the bad PR. Don’t touch what’s working. Meanwhile the retention slowly gets worse.
Treat discomfort as a signal, not a reason to defer.
